Battles are typically lost when Nobunaga’s unit is defeated, time runs out, or a special mission requirement cannot be completed. The best grades produce items that can be used to equip friendly officers, or gold to purchase such items from merchants between battles. The degrees of accomplishment in the battle are given at the end of each stage, and are based on how many enemy officers were defeated, the number of friendly officers were kept in the battle, and the effective use of group skills. These objectives can include destroying all enemy units, destroying a specific objective, escorting a unit to a certain position, or making an escape. After 100 soldiers are defeated, the enemy unit’s officer appears, and if the player can defeat him, the officer in control of the player can receive even new bonuses.īattles end when the primary objective has been accomplished. During an uproar, the player can earn bonus experience, gold, and restore lost troops to the unit by searching for items left by defeated soldiers. When used, the action zooms around that officer, and the player introduces a short mini-battle, determined against troops from an enemy unit. Troops also have specific skills related to their particular type (cavalry, spearmen, ninja, etc.) and officers can learn powerful special skills and abilities such as defensive strategies or attack with magic that can turn the tide of battle.Īll officers have access to a special skill called ” Rampage “. The battle begins when friendly and enemy units encounter each other and the health of the unit is measured by the number of troops remaining in the unit. During the battle itself, the player is in control of an individual unit and can switch between friendly units at any time, while other units are controlled by artificial intelligence. After being informed in the mission details, the player then selects which units to bring into the battle before issuing basic orders. The flow of the game begins with the player who selects a mission from those available on the map. Kessen III refines the mechanics of previous games even further by introducing new main elements. There is a certain level of inaccuracy, due not only to the element of fantasy, but also due to the appearance of Musashi Miyamoto, who was not yet alive when Nobunaga committed seppuku. The game also lets you fight battles against other notable daimyos, like Kenshin Uesugi and Shingen Takeda. His improbable charisma inspires his troops after they tell him unfairly of Nobunaga’s death, and this leads his friend to comment, “Perhaps he would be the one who would unite Japan, if Lord Oda were dead.” Hideyoshi Toyotomi is also shown, under the name of Hideyoshi Hashiba. Ieyasu Tokugawa is in this game, shown as an ally of gentle manners and dedicated to Nobunaga, but is shown enraged when he learns that Nobunaga survives the betrayal, believing that he was going to execute Nobunaga’s fate. He shows Nobunaga gaining his power base, and soon defeating the shogunate forces led by the Akechi clan and other Western Japanese clans on the shores of Kyushu, and Nobunaga presumably becomes the new leader. The game paints a positive picture of Nobunaga’s life, and then an “What if” scenario comes in that shows what could have happened if he had survived Mitsuhide Akechi’s betrayal. For example, the existence of the Ashikaga shogunate and Nobunaga’s relationship is covered in this place but completely missing from the Samurai Warriors games. The portrait of his life is strongly fanciful and romanticized, although unlike games like the Samurai Warriors series he goes into more specific historical details. Unlike many stories and portraits that represent him as a villain or demon, Nobunaga is represented in a more virtuous and ultimately tragic light, making Kessen III quite exceptional compared to other video games based on the same era. The time frame of the game is roughly between the years 1560 to 1590. New re-releases were available later in Japan as 決戦III (Kesen Suri) TREASURE BOX in 22 of December of 2004 that contained photo album and other gifts, Reprint one reprintada version 1 of December of 2005 and the version of The Best of 14 in September of 2006. Kessen III ( 決 戦 III, Kesen Suri, Kessen III ? ) Is a PlayStation 2 video game produced by Koei and is based on the life of Nobunaga Oda.
